EI Data Center - Facilities

Space Design
Raised floor area: 40,000 square feet
Office area: Approximately 2,000 square feet
Ancillary equipment rooms: Plant facilities, approximately 20,000 square feet
Conference rooms: 3
Supply room: 1
Communication rooms:           Two, located in diverse building locations
Ship/receive/equipment staging:         Double loading dock - 4-foot high dock with a single leveler.
Electrical Systems
Diesel generator:

Three 1500 kilowatt, 480 volt, 3-phase generator with paralleling capabilities.

Fuel Tank:

Three 10,000-gallon fuel tanks.

UPS: Twelve 225 KVA units and two 150 KVA units. These units are supplied from the three UPS switchboards. When primary and secondary PDUs are required, they are provided from the separate UPS switchboards.
PDUs (primary and secondary): Twelve 225 KVA units and two 150 KVA units. These units are supplied from the three UPS switchboards. When primary and secondary PDUs are required, they are provided from the separate UPS switchboards.
Electrical distribution (dual paths): The building is provided from three separate utility services rated at 2500 KVA each.
Building feeds, conduits, trenches: The electrical feeder is a 25,000 volt, 100 amp, radial loop feeder from the utility. The feeder conduits are of four-inch rigid steel encase in a concrete duct bank.
Watts/square foot (equipment footprint, raised floor area, total facility):

Total utility power capacity is 6 megawatts. Total generator power capacity is 4.5 megawatts.

Total UPS power capacity is 3 megawatts. Presently use: 1.2 megawatts of utility power; 1.2 megawatts of gen. power (same as utility power); 0.26 megawatts of UPS power (2 UPS units on line and one in standby).

If 40,000 square feet is used for the UPS load calculations: 3 UPS units - 75 watts per square foot; 2 UPS units - 50 watts per square foot. Use:  < 6.5 Watts per square foot of UPS power.

If 80,000 square feet is used for the utility load calculations: 3 Services - 75 watts per square foot. Use: 15 watts per square foot for the total building loads. This is inclusive of the power to operate 2 UPS units.

If 80,000 square feet is used for the generator load calculations: 3 generators - 56.25 watts/sq. ft.

Mechanical Systems
HVAC (tonnage, location, dist.): Two 850 ton fully redundant centrifugal chiller units located in the Engineering Building. Two cooling loops are used for distribution of chilled water. The AHU (air handling units) consists of a six-inch piping for four AHUs. The computer air-conditioning (CAC) consists of 14 inch piping.
Cooling, heating, humidification: Cooling is achieved by four AHUs (50, 90, 30, and 11 ton units) and thirty 22 ton CAC units. Heating is provided from the internal heat loads and assisted by twenty-eight Electric Terminal Units (electrical heat strips). Humidification is controlled by AHU-2 with electric heaters and a water spray pump.
Filtering (particulate levels): Filtration varies from 0.3 to 3 microns.
Fire Protection Systems
Smoke detection: The microprocessor-based annunciator/control panel manufactured by Notifier uses 680 analog-addressable devices consisting of photoelectric, ionization, thermal, pull station, and control-module devices.
Pre-action wet systems: The system is a dry pipe, dual action system. There are three active zones and one zone for future expansion. The Notifier controls the operation. The pressure is boosted by a 50 Hp fire pump that delivers 750 GPM at 150 P.S.I.
Dry systems: There are three Halon zones. The Notifier controls this operation. Zone 1 has 100 pounds of Halon. Zone 2 has 500 pounds of Halon. Zone 3 has 300 pounds of Halon. In addition, there are thirteen CO2 bottles and fifty Halon bottles located throughout the building.
Raised Floor
Height: 10 feet
Tile size :

2’ x 2’. Solid steel, concrete, or perforated, depending on applicability.

Communication/Network:

Fiber entrance paths:

Diverse paths run through reinforced-concrete conduit terminating in two separate, hardened communication rooms on opposite sides of the facility.

Cable plant: Comprised of multi-mode fiber, Category 6 (100/1000 base T), Category 5E, and coaxial cables.
